RB Leipzig midfielder Xaver Schlager, 27, is out until March after undergoing knee surgery.

Austrian midfielder Schlager had previously been struggling with a left knee injury and his condition did not improve, with RB Leipzig deciding to have the 27-year-old undergo minor surgery, which will keep him out for around six weeks.

The Austrian midfielder suffer an ACL injury during a game against Hoffenheim in May 2024 and return to action towards the end of the year, before suffering another knee problem in a game against Banik on January 6, and a fluid build-up was detect in the 27-year-old’s knee, requiring minor surgery to correct the problem.

Die Roten Bullen confirmed on Wednesday that he will be sideline for around six weeks after undergoing a minor knee operation.

Schlager is expect to resume training after next month’s international break, which runs from 17 to 27 March.

He last played for Leipzig just before Christmas. The Austria international has already missed several months of this season with a cruciate ligament tear.

Schlager has made just five appearances in the 2024/25 campaign.

Schlager is reportedly set to return to action in around six weeks and is likely to miss the playoff games against Serbia on March 20 and 23.
